locointhecoco | Creepy old abandoned mansion on Phoenix Way, Wednesday evening

Pinkie had spent all day -- barring her class, of course -- getting the mansion ready for the Halloween party. If anyone had any protests over her rather liberal use of black and orange balloons, streamers, party hats, table cloths, and confetti, she wasn't hearing them over the noise of her party cannon.

Kitty made a fantastic party helper, at least, helping rearrange what little furniture was already set up (so that's what hands were for!) and doing the many things that even the party cannon couldn't do (such as keep Pinkie from eating all the snacks before the party could even start).

Then, at last, it was time to get into costume. Pinkie had promised to show Kitty just what Nightmare Night was all about, and her Nightmare Moon costume delivered in spades, if she did say so herself. Sure, the glowing contact lenses were uncomfortable, and the black make-up was going to be rather difficult to get out of her coat later, but she was rocking those plastic fangs.

Clint had definitely taken the easy way out, and had shown up in his SHIELD uniform, with his jacket and, very reluctantly given the locale, without his bow. If anyone needed him, he'd be beelining for candy and keeping an eye out for a certain sexy lady.

"Interesting choice of costume," Kitty greeted him, smiling.

"Oooh, you too," Clint said happily, totally looking her in the eyes, for real. "Are you having fun?"

"I am. People showed up and there's been way too much sugar and it looks like I definitely have your attention," she teased.

"You've definitely captured my attention," Clint agreed. "It's your charming wit, I just can't escape."

Kitty smiled, leaning in to give him a kiss. "And that is one of the reasons I keep you around."

"That and my arms, I know," he said, kissing her back. "You really did well getting this place set up. It actually looks hospitable, for a scary party."

"Much more than just your arms," Kitty assured him. "And thanks. I have to give most of the credit to Pinkie and her cannon, though."

"She's really... interesting." That was mostly a compliment, honestly. "Are we talking an actual cannon here?"

"Yes. A party cannon," Kitty nodded. "And I think I might want something like it, so you know. Keep that in mind when my birthday rolls around."

She was kidding.

"You know, I could probably get Tony to build you something like that if you really wanted one. He does love a good challenge," Clint said temptingly. "I don't think I know when your birthday is yet." That was probably a boyfriend foul on his part, oops.

Okay so they both failed at this part. Just wait till Kitty had to finally ask his age because Stiles brought it up.

"January 7th. That works out kind of nicely." Primarily because Clint was less likely to forget Kitty's birthday if it was so close to his.

"It does," she smiled, and had to go ahead and bite the bullet. "And how old would you say you're going to be then?"

To be fair, she'd been avoiding that question on purpose, because 'older than me' was a fine enough answer to live with until someone else brought it up.

"Um, a year older than I am now?" Clint said with a smirk. Kitty wasn't the only one who wasn't necessarily eager to quantify their age difference. "I'll be 36."

"Huh. That's actually about what I thought." And thank god. If she'd have been able to say he was more than twice her age she might have freaked out a little.

"Oh good," Clint said, relieved that she didn't seem upset or anything. "I mean, maturity-wise, I think I average out at about 16, and that's what really counts, right?"

Kitty could totally do sixteen years' difference. She just wouldn't be mentioning that detail to her mother unless specifically asked.

"Give yourself some credit. I'd average you out at at least twenty-one," she teased.

Awww, Clint was good with moms. When he was dating people with moms. Or who were adults. Yeah, maybe Kitty leaving her mom in the dark was a good thing.

"You're a lot nicer to me than most people. Maybe that's why I keep you around," he said.

"And the cowgirl outfits," she smiled, slipping her arms around his waist. "I'd say people should be nicer to you, but I sort of like looking good here..."

Clint slipped his arms around Kitty's shoulders with a grin. "Oh, you look plenty good, don't worry." Now he really couldn't resist looking down because come on, she was right there.

"Some of the soldiers where I'm from wear metal, but I have to move around a lot and be stealthy," Clint explained. "That'd be a lot harder if I was dressed like a tin can."
