OOC: For friending purposes
Nov. 14th, 2012 04:58 pmSo with the new townies today, I remembered that if you hover over the little person icon in a journal name (depending, I suppose, on your settings/browser/computer set up/etc) it pops up a little bubble with a nice, easy, non-new-page-opening friending link. Since I find this way easier to deal with than lots of clicking, I put together an as-up-to-date-as-I-can-figure-out list of game journal names and popped them into a table for minimal scrolling. And, well, since I figure I may not be alone in my anti-clicking nature, I figured I'd share it with you all, as well.
This won't make the nice friending groups the admins have set up for us work, but it'll at least get the journals showing up on your default view!

Also, it may be easiest to start at the bottom of a column and work your way up. That way, it's easy to keep track of where you are, and you don't have to dodge the bubble to get to the next name.

For those who have the hover menu turned off and thus don't see any pop-ups, it's not dependent on your journal style; it's just a yes/no option that you can set in the admin console. So, without further ado:
To turn it on: set opt_ctxpopup Y
To turn it off: set opt_ctxpopup N

Date: 2012-11-14 11:17 pm (UTC)Fun fact! There are, like, somewhere in the order of 250 active journals in this game! I may have at one point in this process employed a spreadsheet (oh spreadsheets, you're my second best friend after find-and-replace).

Date: 2012-11-15 01:15 am (UTC)I figured in the wake of the anxiety the change had instilled in folks, a few options would be good!
ETA I added the info about how to turn on and off the pop-ups at the admin console to the post.

Date: 2012-11-15 02:57 am (UTC)Basically the only way to add people to groups in bulk is to use the Edit Groups page (http://www.livejournal.com/friends/editgroups.bml). (Where you create the students, townies, etc. groups in the first place.) That page lets you go down the list of friends and ctrl+click names, then transfer all those highlighted names into a group at once.
So with the master friending list (which is separated out into which group they go into, then laid out in alpha order by username within each section) open in another window, you can alt+tab back and forth to highlight just the students, just the townies, etc. It's not perfect, but slightly better than having to sort usernames into groups from memory.

Date: 2012-11-15 02:56 am (UTC)I think that's everyone?
Re: !NOTE!
Date: 2012-11-15 03:27 am (UTC)This list should be fully up to date. (The Master Friending list linked from the FH userinfo will get converted over and be the one that gets updated going forward; mine is just temporary, because the Master List is in Jake's journal and Bridgey isn't around right now to edit it.)

Date: 2012-11-15 03:56 am (UTC)For some reason, though I did try to hunt down a master post, it totally did not occur to me to check the comm's profile page. Such is life.
