Creepy old abandoned mansion on Phoenix Way, Wednesday evening

Pinkie had spent all day -- barring her class, of course -- getting the mansion ready for the Halloween party. If anyone had any protests over her rather liberal use of black and orange balloons, streamers, party hats, table cloths, and confetti, she wasn't hearing them over the noise of her party cannon.

Kitty made a fantastic party helper, at least, helping rearrange what little furniture was already set up (so that's what hands were for!) and doing the many things that even the party cannon couldn't do (such as keep Pinkie from eating all the snacks before the party could even start).

Then, at last, it was time to get into costume. Pinkie had promised to show Kitty just what Nightmare Night was all about, and her Nightmare Moon costume delivered in spades, if she did say so herself. Sure, the glowing contact lenses were uncomfortable, and the black make-up was going to be rather difficult to get out of her coat later, but she was rocking those plastic fangs.

"Hearth's Warming Eve is when we get together in the winter to celebrate family and togetherness and remember the time when ponies didn't all get along or work together so well, causing our world to be almost totally wiped out by a supernatural blizzard." As you do. "And Hearts and Hooves Day is the day we all get together and show each other how much we love each other! It's mostly for those with Very Special Someponies, but you can give Hearts and Hooves Day cards to friends, too."

"That's not even a word," Pinkie said. "Life Day sounds like a good one, though. What do you do for that?"

"Well, there's a tree, and music, and fireworks, things like that," Jaina explained. "It's about remembering those who died and the people who are still around. I had sort of an adopted uncle from where this comes from, so it feels kind of important."

When there was no Jefferson Starship, anyway.

"When I'm home. Only a couple people here celebrate it and they're all from different timelines," she said. "But I get Christmas here when I'm around." Jaina paused. "It feels like a lot of holidays."

And now there just had to be a Hearth's Warming Eve party or something.
